Mark Pearson will be attending ICMI18

One of the most moving and impactful presentations at last year’s London conference was Mark Pearson’s Facing my Waterloo. I’m delighted to report, with his permission, that Mark will be attending next year’s conference in Birmingham. If you haven’t already paid your £22.00 deposit, we urge you to do so – here.

ICMI18 dates changed to 6-8 July

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we’ve had to change the dates of next year’s conference from 13-15 July to 6-8 July. We apologise for any inconvenience caused, and will be updating materials to reflect the new dates as soon as possible.

If you’re planning to attend the conference and haven’t yet paid your £22.00 deposit, we strongly urge you to do so now. The sooner we have the required number of deposits, giving us confidence that the conference will cover its costs, the sooner we’ll be able to announce it’s definitely going ahead. Until that times comes, please do not make any non-cancellable travel or accommodation commitments.

An appeal to people planning to attend next year’s conference

We’re really looking forward to next year’s conference, the fourth International Conference on Men’s Issues (July 6-8, in Birmingham). We’ve already had £22.00 ticket deposits from many who attended the London conference last year. They tell us that the talks were only one element in the overall conference experience. The opportunity to spend three days in the company of people with similar interests and concerns was, for many of them, the biggest reward. Many new friendships were forged.

Deposits have been sent by people living in a number of countries, including:

  • United Kingdom
  • United States
  • Canada
  • Australia
  • Germany
  • France
  • Sweden
  • Finland

We expect that most conference attendees, as at the London conference last year, will be British – so this appeal is mainly directed at them. We need to be confident that a sufficient number of people will attend the next conference, for it to be financially viable. So we’ve started (as we did with the London conference) with a request that you make a deposit of £22.00 as soon as possible. The sum will be refunded in full in the highly unlikely event that the conference doesn’t take place.

Your deposit will guarantee the availability of a ticket, an Early Bird ticket if you wish. The deadline to pay the £203.00 balance for an Early Bird ticket (£225.00) will be four weeks after the announcement that the conference is definitely going to take place. After the deadline you can pay the balance of £243.00 before 24:00 GMT 7 April, during which time tickets will be priced at £265.00. We need to set an early deadline for ordering tickets because we need to ensure we have the money to pay for major outlays such as venue hire, speaker flights, hotel accommodation etc.

You don’t need to have made the £22.00 deposit to later order a ticket, but if you don’t:

  • you won’t be guaranteed ticket availability
  • you’ll be adding to the risk that the conference is cancelled simply because not enough people have paid the deposit to give us confidence about likely attendance numbers

Saving the cost of your ticket

At last year’s London conference we were fortunate to have the services of a leading British portrait photographer, Mike Stone. His website is here. A small selection from his portfolio of photographs of famous people:

Gordon Ramsay, restauranteur:

Paul Smith, English fashion designer:

David Cameron, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (2010-16):

Sir Stuart Rose, English businessman, life peer, former executive chairman of Marks & Spencer:

Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft:

Sir James Dyson, designer, founder of the Dyson company:

John Negroponte, British-born American diplomat:

Sir Mark Weinberg, South African-born British financier:

Sheikh Yamani, Saudi Arabian politician:

Some of the photographs Mike took of speakers and others at the London conference:

Erin Pizzey, who needs no introduction:

Paul Elam, likewise:

Guttorm Grundt:

Jan Olav Flottorp:

Janet Bloomfield (JudgyBitch):

Josh O’Brien:

Paul Apreda:

Mike Buchanan:

So, what has all this to do with you potentially saving the cost of your ICMI18 ticket? Mike normally charges £400.00 for a 20-25 minute session, after which he provides a selection of edited high resolution colour or B&W digital images with all usage rights included. At the conference he is prepared to charge attendees just £99.00, which will save you more than the cost of even the full-price conference ticket (£265.00, the Early Bird tickets will cost only £225.00).

We anticipate that only a proportion of conference delegates wishing to avail themselves of Mike’s generous offer will be able to do so, before his time at the conference is fully booked. If you wish to take up his offer, you’ll need first to have bought a ticket, or at least paid the first instalment for a full price ticket. Then you can contact Mike ([email protected]) to book an appointment. Take it from me, he’s a pleasure to work with. Even people who are uncomfortable having their photographs taken soon feel at ease with Mike. I should know, I’m one of them.

£22.00 deposits required to guarantee ticket availability for ICMI18

Help us promote ICMI18 outside the venue: Birmingham City FC v Aston Villa FC, Sunday, 29 October

In four weeks’ time we’ll be promoting the conference outside the venue where it will be held – St Andrew’s Stadium, the home of Birmingham City FC. The game will be a big local derby, against Aston Villa FC. We’ll be engaging with fans, handing out leaflets, and holding placards (printed both sides, no expense spared). We invite you to join us. To ensure we have enough placards and leaflets, please let us know ([email protected]) if you’ll be attending. Thanks.

Paul Elam to be presented with a Churchill award at ICMI18

Occasionally we present Churchill awards to people who’ve made an outstanding contribution to fighting for men’s rights. Philip Davies MP won the award, as did Barry Wright for investing a huge sum of money in putting on screenings of The Red Pill in Norwich, and funding the travel and accommodation of Paul Elam, Cassie Jaye, Erin Pizzey and Dr Randomercam. A link to Barry’s award is here.

We’re going to present Paul Elam with a Churchill award during the dinner on the second night of ICMI18, July 7. The dinner will be held in the Jasper Carrott Suite, which overlooks the pitch and the large LED screen next to it. We’re planning to have this image on the screen during the dinner:
