I was contacted this afternoon by Paul Elam, and he later penned this email, which is published here with his permission:
Dear Mike,
I am writing to inform you, with regrets, that I will not be able to attend the upcoming ICMI18 in London this July. As you know from last year I have been dealing with some medical issues. Â Nothing terribly serious, mind you, but which present multiple challenges for travel overseas.
I remain enthusiastic about the event, and I look forward to participating in any way I can from home. Please know that I will be there in spirit with you, J4MB, and all the speakers and attendees.

We’re sorry Paul won’t be joining us, as we’re sure his many other admirers will be, but we wish him well with his medical issues. His presentation at the start of the conference will be by way of a pre-recorded video. Hopefully he’ll be able to attend ICMI19, wherever that will be held.
Oh no–so sorry to hear this. But I look forward to his recorded presentation anyway.
